In 2021, we treated 2,156 patients infected with coronavirus in intensive care and on inpatient wards.
These treatment periods totaled 17,506 treatment days, including nearly 4,000 treatment days of demanding intensive care. Invoicing for treatment periods for coronavirus patients amounted to EUR 35.1 million. In addition to inpatient care, coronavirus infections caused EUR 2.1 million in billing for emergency clinic visits.
For the second year running, the coronavirus epidemic affected our operations, on the basis of which we applied for a central government grant to cover the costs of the epidemic in April 2021 and November 2021. HUS received a total of EUR 75.6 million in grants intended for hospital districts and grants meant for other necessary costs.
The invoicing of coronavirus testing and analytics from HUS member municipalities and hospital districts in the Specific Catchment Area totaled EUR 252.4 million.
