The further deployment of Apotti and the coronavirus pandemic increased the use of Maisa. More than 220,000 users have registered in Maisa.
Maisa is an online patient service in the Apotti patient and customer information system, an encrypted digital channel linking the general public to professionals. Using Maisa, a patient can send a message to their treatment unit, book appointments or fill in medical history forms, using a web browser or a mobile device. Use of Maisa increased with the wider deployment of Apotti across all of HUS in 2020.
At the end of 2020, the utilization rate of Maisa at HUS overall was 20%. The highest unit-specific utilization rate, 80%, was found in the antenatal screening unit on Bulevardi in Helsinki, where the appointment booking system was ported to Maisa in November 2020.
The coronavirus pandemic boosted the use of Maisa, because video appointments can also be conducted via the service. In April and May, more than 1,000 video appointments were conducted via Maisa, compared with 200 to 300 in other months.
Besides HUS, Maisa was used by the social welfare and health care services of the City of Vantaa in 2020. In all, Maisa had more than 220,000 registered users by the end of the year and more than 3.5 million individual logins.
