Action Implementation
Reducing the quantity of mixed waste, e.g. (1) introducing hospital plastics collection at hospitals where the investigation showed there was space available, (2) enhancing hospital plastics collection at Meilahti, (3) improving and devising signage for waste containers and sorting stations. Goal attained. In 2020, the total quantity of mixed waste decreased by 4.3%.  1–2) hospital plastics collection was introduced at Ohkola Hospital and expanded on the Meilahti Hospital campus, in the kitchen at Kellokoski and at Hyvinkää Hospital, 3) improvement of signage was begun.

Reduce volume of biowaste by 30% from 2015 to 2020 Partly attained. In 2020, the volume of biowaste was 16% less than in 2015. This reduction was partly (35%) due to the new biowaste collection system brought on stream at the Meilahti catering center. Estimates show that if it had been operation for the entire year, the volume of biowaste at HUS would have been 20% less than in 2015.

Goal 4: Continue energy efficiency efforts with a new energy efficiency agreement among municipalities
Action Implementation
The energy efficiency measures outlined in the investment program will achieve savings of 7.5% from the level of energy consumption in 2015 by the end of 2025. The accumulated savings target for 2020 is 2,601 MWh. Prognosis and outcome monitoring for savings measures is to be introduced. Partly attained. In 2020, accumulated savings of about 1,900 MWh was attained. The accumulated savings from 2017 to 2020, about 11,300 MWh, when averaged out, exceeds the annual savings goal of 2,601 MWh by about 8% and also exceeds the interim goal of 10,404 MWh overall for 2020 set in the energy efficiency agreement. Monitoring of savings measures and their prognoses was introduced in 2020.

Practices designed in the project ‘Cost cutting management and reporting’ deployed. Partly attained, because not all practices were deployed. A monitoring model for savings measures and their prognoses was introduced in 2020, and a computation round was carried out during autumn 2020. Further computation rounds will be carried out in 2021. Goal 5: Consider corporate responsibility more carefully in HUS procurements
Action Implementation
Increase awareness of responsible procurements among HUS procurement experts Goal attained. Training in responsible procurements was held for all procurement experts at HUS Logistics in August 2020. A Guide to Ethical Procurement was authored jointly with Keino and other hospital districts, completed in January 2020. This Guide was posted in the Procurement Bank on the HUS Intranet and is available to everyone.

Identify responsibility issues and prioritize responsible procurement measures in procurements in various product categories Goal attained. Category strategies have been completed for five procurement categories. These strategies highlight the essential responsibility goals for procurements in their respective categories. The category department ensures that responsibility aspects are complied with in respect of these procurements.

Responsibility criteria applied in at least 50% of all tendering processes Partly attained. We completed twice as many tendering processes in 2020 as in the previous year. Also, the coronavirus pandemic affected the management of those processes. For these reasons, the percentage of processes where the criteria were applied was 26%, falling short of the goal.

Replace PVC products with other materials Partly attained. The goal of reducing our use of PVC is considered whenever possible. In medical supplies, for instance, PVC has largely been replaced with other kinds of plastic. We have also reduced the use of PVC-based flooring materials in construction and renovation projects.

Reduce losses from customized prepackaging Partly attained. We have begun investigating prepackaging and planning action. Evaluation of the volume of loss is ongoing.

Action Implementation

We devised a bicycle parking plan for Meilahti.
