Infections in children
Keywords:At HUS, we treat all pediatric infectious diseases.
The most common pediatric infectious diseases are various respiratory infections (obstructive bronchitis, laryngitis, and pneumonia) and intestinal infections. In addition, we treat children with an underlying disease that predisposes them to infections or makes treating their infections demanding. In addition to common infections, the treatment of more severe infections, such as tuberculosis, complicated lung infections, and central nervous system infections, as well as the treatment of infections in immunocompromised patients, has been centralized in New Children's Hospital.
We usually treat pediatric infections at the emergency department, where we can monitor the child for 24 hours, if necessary. Infection patients treated on inpatient wards are mostly small children under the age of 3.
We treat pediatric infections typically with intravenous antibiotic and fluid therapies, as well as inhalable asthma medication administered for asthma. Infection patients in monitoring beds require the most demanding treatments, including respiratory support and demanding intravenous therapies.
