Endocrinology is a specialty in which disorders of glands secreting hormones are examined and treated. These disorders may be caused by an excess of or a deficiency in certain hormones. Also, tumors both benign and malignant may occur in endocrine tissue.
Endocrine surgery comprises surgical treatment of disorders of endocrine glands. A common example of such a procedure is thyroid surgery.
The parenchymal organs include the kidneys, adrenal glands, liver, spleen, and pancreas.
