Endocrine surgery

Keywords:

Endocrine surgery is a sub-area of gastroenterological surgery requiring specialist expertise. It includes surgery on the thyroid and parathyroid glands and surgery to remove endocrine tumors in the adrenal glands, pancreas and gastrointestinal tract.

Our most typical surgical procedures are removal of a thyroid lobe or the entire thyroid gland, removal of a benign parathyroid tumor (adenoma) and removal of an adrenal gland by keyhole surgery.  Among the most demanding operations we do are surgical procedures to remove benign or malignant thyroid tumors extending into the thoracic cavity.

We perform the majority of our endocrine surgery procedures at Jorvi Hospital; parathyroid surgery procedures are also performed at Peijas Hospital. Elsewhere in Uusimaa, basic thyroid surgery is performed at Lohja, Hyvinkää and Porvoo Hospitals.
