Breast milk donations

General information for collection of milk:

• Wash carefully the parts of the breast pump (including O-rings and valves) after every use with dishwashing liquid or in the dishwasher. Boil the breast pump parts once a day for 5 minutes. The clean parts should be stored dry and ventilated. Assemble the pump with clean hands.
• Wash your hands with liquid soap. It is enough to wash your breasts with warm running water right before pumping the milk. Dry your hands and breasts with paper towels. You can additionally use hand disinfection liquid for hands after washing. If you need to care for or breastfeed the baby between pumping, wash your hands and breasts again before continuing pumping.
• Cool the milk under cold running water and store it in the fridge. Milk pumped on the same date can be combined into one bottle or container once it has cooled.
• Wipe any splashes of milk from the bottles using a paper towel.
• Set your fridge temperature to +5°C and store the milk at the back of the fridge where it is the coldest. Set your freezer to -18°C and additionally use the freezer’s fast freeze function when freezing new containers.
• Human milk keeps in the fridge for about 24 hours; if frozen, it keeps for about three months.
• Do not store human milk in room temperature.

Bringing breast milk to your own child in hospital:

• Milk collected less than 24 hours ago can be brought in to the ward fresh. Milk older than that needs to be frozen. The staff can provide further information. Mark the date, the child’s full name and birth date on every batch of milk. When delivering milk to the hospital/home, pack the bottles and containers carefully into a cooler bag with ice packs.
• When your child comes home or is transferred to another hospital, please remember to ask for the remaining frozen milk since the milk will not be given to any other children.

Additional information for milk donators:

• Write your donator-number and date to every bottle and box
• If you have any wound in the nipple, let the skin recover for a couple of days before continuing the collection.

Noudatathan tarkoin seuraavia ohjeita:

• Pese rintapumpun osat (myös tiivisteet ja venttiilit) huolellisesti astianpesuaineella tai astianpesukoneessa joka käytön jälkeen. Keitä osat kerran päivässä noin viiden minuutin ajan. Säilytä puhtaat osat kuivassa ja ilmavassa paikassa. Kokoa osat puhtain käsin.
• Käytä käsien pesuun käytetään nestesaippuaa. Rintojen pesuun riittää lämmin juokseva vesi juuri ennen maidon keräämistä. Kuivaa kädet ja rinnat talouspaperiin. Kuivattuihin käsiin voit pesun jälkeen hieroa myös apteekista saatavaa desinfioivaa käsihuuhdetta. Jos hoidat tai imetät vauvaa maidon keräämisen välillä, pese kädet ja rinnat uudestaan ennen kuin jatkat maidon keräämistä.
• Jäähdytä maito nopeasti juoksevassa kylmässä vedessä ja säilytetään jääkaapissa. Saman päivän maitoerät voidaan yhdistää kylminä samaan pulloon tai rasiaan. Äidinmaitoroiskeet pyyhitään pulloista talouspaperilla.
• Säädä jääkaapin lämpötila +5°C:een ja säilytä maitoja kaapin takaosassa, missä on kylmintä. Säädä pakastin - 18°C:een. Käytä pakastustehoa, kun lisäät uusia rasioita pakastumaan.

Huomioithan myös nämä:

• Alle vuorokauden ajalta kerätty maito voidaan tuoda tuoreena osastolle. Sitä vanhempi maito pakastetaan. Lisäohjeita saat hoitohenkilökunnalta. Jokaiseen maitoerään merkitään päiväys, lapsen koko nimi ja syntymäaika. Kun kuljetat maidot sairaalaan/kotiin, pullot ja rasiat pakataan huolellisesti kylmälaukkuun kylmävaraajien kanssa.
• Lapsen siirtyessä kotiin tai toiseen sairaalaan, muistathan pyytää mukaan jäljelle jääneet pakastemaidot, sillä maitoa ei anneta muille kuin omalle lapsellesi.
• Äidinmaito säilyy jääkaapissa noin vuorokauden, pakastettuna noin kolme kuukautta.
• Äidinmaitoa ei tule säilyttää huoneenlämmössä.
