Ward K4A at Meilahti Triangle Hospital is a neurological inpatient ward where the testing of invasive treatments and the initiation of treatment of severe movement disorders have been centralized.
We perform testing for deep-brain stimulation (DBS) patients before surgical procedures, and conduct demanding stimulator adjustments in Parkinson's disease which has advanced after surgery, and in cases of severe essential tremor and dystonia.
We conduct testing and initiation of apomorphine and levodopa infusion treatments in patients with a severe Parkinson's disease. We also perform initial adjustments for deep-brain stimulators in patients with epilepsy. In addition to this, we treat patients with cerebrovascular disorders. Other key groups of symptoms and diseases we treat include headache, dizziness, tumors, diseases of the spinal cord, and inflammation of the central nervous system. Our personnel is trained to assist patients with the treatments mentioned above.
In addition to nurses and physicians, our ward has a multi-professional team including a neuropsychologist, a physiotherapist, a speech and occupational therapist, and a social worker.
