Social work at New Children's Hospital is aimed at supporting the family during a child’s illness.
When a child or an adolescent falls ill, it greatly affects the family’s everyday life, interpersonal relationships in the family, work, income, and it may disrupt the usual pattern of life. Crisis intervention and supporting families when their child falls ill is at the core of a hospital social worker’s work.
The aim of social work is to make it easier for the family to cope in their everyday life.
The family can discuss the different options and solutions available with the social worker. Issues at hand may be for example:
- organizing help at home
- social security benefits
- rehabilitation matters
- social services
- reaching out to outside agencies as needed.
Please contact social workers via the inpatient ward or outpatient clinic.
