Glaucoma and neuro-ophthalmology, Pasila
Keywords:In the glaucoma and neuro-ophthalmology outpatient clinic, our activities focus on cases requiring a special level of specialist medical care. Treatment at the outpatient clinic requires a physician’s referral.
Glaucoma
Areas of operation for our units include early diagnostics of glaucoma and the treatment of problematic glaucoma cases. We perform diagnostics and assess the need for laser and surgical treatment, and treat patients who have, for example, problems related to medication. In the glaucoma unit, we perform various laser procedures and demanding glaucoma surgery. As a rule, we already conduct visual field testing and various medical imaging examinations prior to the appointment.
Neuro-ophthalmology
Neuro-ophthalmology is a specialty that combines eye diseases and neurology. We treat patients who may have brain tumors, double vision, eye movement disorders, and vision loss. During the appointment, we identify the causes of unexplained vision loss, visual field defects, and problems related to pupils. We conduct examinations of neurosurgical patients and investigate ophthalmic symptoms and findings associated with neurological diseases.
Examinations
In our examination unit, we conduct visual field testing, photography, fluorescein and indocyanine green angiography, tomography, electrophysiological examinations, and intraocular pressure measurements. Sometimes the pupils need to be dilated with short-acting eye drops, and your vision may be slightly blurred after fundus examinations.
We recommend that you arrive for your examinations and appointments using public transportation. Examinations and appointments may take some time, so please reserve plenty of time. Various examinations and procedures carried out during appointments cause changes to our schedules daily.
