Interprofessional Learning Unit, Jorvi Hospital
Our unit is an interprofessional learning unit operating under Ward K6 in the Abdominal Center, where we treat patients suffering from various abdominal problems. Our unit operates around the clock.
In the Interprofessional Learning Unit, each shift has a student and a supervisor who is responsible for patient care. The physician’s rounds take place daily on our ward, and the student participates on the rounds with their supervisor.
Most patients come to our ward after a planned procedure, and the student will receive the patient together with the supervisor. If the availability of patient beds allows, we also treat abdominal patients arriving through the emergency department in our unit. As they arrive at the unit, we ask each patient for their consent to being a teaching patient, and the consent is recorded in the patient’s medical records.
Our unit currently has eight patient beds in use.
In our unit, students have the possibility to practice patient contact and treating the patients, working in a multi-professional team and familiarizing themselves with various examinations and medical therapies together with the support of a supervisor in an actual working life environment. Our unit employs both nurses and practical nurses who instruct and guide students and are responsible for ensuring high-quality patient care in every shift.
