To ensure patient safety, there will be no childbirth services at Lohja Hospital from June 17 to September 8, 2024. The break in Lohja's childbirth services will start on a staggered basis. Lohja Hospital will admit women in labor until midnight on Friday, June 14, 2024. The maternity ward and the 24-hour Gynecology and Obstetrics Emergency Department will close on June 17.
The Maternity Outpatient Clinic and Gynecology Outpatient Clinic at Lohja Hospital will continue to provide care during the summer break in childbirth services. In addition, the hospital will continue to provide midwifery services such as prenatal screenings, postnatal appointments, as well as antenatal care for gestational diabetes and fear of childbirth.
Hospitals preparing for summer
The Women’s Hospital and the Espoo and Hyvinkää hospitals are preparing for the increase in the number of births by reorganizing their premises and work. Additional rooms will be introduced in the maternity wards and the Family Nest Hotel. Some family rooms will be converted into shared rooms for the summer.
Some of the staff from Lohja's gynecology and obstetrics will move to other maternity hospitals during the break. These transfers have been agreed together with staff.
HUS is developing patient guidance by launching a call center for women in labor in June. In future, women going into labor will call the call center instead of the various maternity hospitals' own numbers.
“The aim of the common telephone number is to make it as easy as possible to come to our maternity hospitals in the HUS region. The call center and shared situational picture also aim to prevent crowding in maternity wards,” says Seppo Heinonen.
