Applying for a job at HUS as an international professional
Our work communities are multicultural, but as an international healthcare professional there are a few things you need to check before you can apply to work for us.
Professional practice rights
All healthcare professionals working in Finland need to apply for licensing, the right to practice their profession in Finland or right to use protected occupational title from Valvira. This applies to people trained in Finland, people trained in another EU or EEA member state and people trained outside the EU/EEA.
To work in a health care profession in Finland, you must have a license granted by Valvira. Valvira charges a fee for every decision concerning licenses to practice a profession, and each applicant is responsible for the cost of the decision and additional training.
Application instructions on Valvira's website.
Rights to practice in nursing
In Finland, Valvira grants the right to practice to nurses trained both in Finland and abroad. To acquire the right to practice, you must start the legalisation process with Valvira. Valvira will make a decision and a statement on any additional training required.
Rights to practice for doctors
Valvira grants persons who have completed a medical degree or a dental degree the right to perform their duties as a legalised medical doctor or a dentist in Finland.
If you have completed your medical degree in an EU or EEA member state, you can apply for a fixed-term right to practice medicineunder the direction and supervision of a legalised medical professional.
The steps in the process, application, interviews, and language requirementsfor doctors trained outside the EU/EEA can be found.
